Even if you have traveled a lot before, visiting new places is always exciting and can be scary. Before you book your flight and pack your bags, be sure to read these sections that involve travel tips that will enable you to get the most out of your trip.
Leave any valuable items you don’t need at home when traveling. Having valuable items with you on a trip is just asking to have them lost or stolen.
Make sure you are prepared to take care of yourself, even on longer flights. A flight is often more comfortable when you bring along comfort items; such as a blanket, a pillow or your own set of headphones. You may also want to purchase a snack before boarding the plane.
Take a look at the alarm clock in your room upon arrival. The worst thing that could happen is to be startled by an alarm clock when you’re fast asleep that a previous guest had set to early. To be sure you can rest, check that the alarm is either off or set to the time in which you want to wake up.
Throw a few clothespins into your suitcase. While they may not be something you would normally pack, clothespins can come in very handy.
Check out airline websites for great deals. Travelocity and similar websites aren’t the only place to find deals on airfares.
Often, when we leave home, we end up taking much of home with us. Only take the things you truly need. Make a list of toiletries that you generally use throughout your day and can’t live without. Pack those that are essential.
It is not uncommon to provide the housekeeper and bell hop with a tip. A good rule of thumb is $1 per bag/luggage and about $2-5 a day for housekeeping. You will have a better relationship with them when you are staying at the hotel.
When booking a hotel reservation, ask if renovations will be underway on those dates. You don’t want to be woke up while on vacation. Since the hotel staff can’t do anything about the noise, you may wish to avoid staying on these dates.
You may end up at a hotel that is far inferior to the Ritz. If you are uncomfortable with where you are staying, bring a rubber doorstop. After locking your hotel room door, you can put down the doorstop to further secure it. While it is relatively simple to break a chain or lock, entering the room will be almost impossible if you have the extra protection of a doorstop.
When traveling on the road with kids, take along some cookie sheets. Cookie sheets can provide flat surfaces on which kids can use coloring books or even to play card games. Little kids can be entertained with some magnetic numbers and letters.
With these tips in mind, your next trip could be the journey of a lifetime. Both novice and seasoned travelers will have a more memorable and enjoyable experience.
